Who needs a car in Switzerland when you can make your way across this beautiful country on one of the best public transportation systems in the world? As a tourist visiting Switzerland, odds are you will be utilizing the transportation system quite often. Switzerland has one of the largest and most extensive rail networks in Europe, with a total length of around 5,100 kilometres.

Now while trains are the main way to get from one city to the next in Switzerland, they are intertwined with other modes of transportation within cities. Busses, trams, mountain rails, boats and cable cars, among others are also vastly used. Instead of paying for full priced tickets for each and every route, Switzerland has different train passes to offer its visitors. From travel passes and discounts, to scenic trains and mountain railways, the Switzerland train network has a lot to take into consideration.

If you decide to go on a train ride through Switzerland, the most cost-effective and flexible way to see the country is to purchase a Swiss Travel Pass.

What Are the Advantages of a Swiss Travel Pass?

Valid for 3, 4, 6, 8 or 15 days, this ticket allows you to travel anywhere, at any time, on Switzerland’s public transport network for a fixed price. You can just go to whichever station is closest to you and spontaneously head to the part of Switzerland that suits your fancy.

Also, you’ll benefit from these advantages:

  • Unlimited travel by train, bus and boat

  • Unlimited journeys onboard the panoramic trains

  • Unlimited access to Swiss public transport in more than 90 cities

  • Free admission to over 500 museums

  • Access to the following mountain railways: Rigi, Stanserhorn and Stoos

  • Discounts of up to 50% on other mountain trains

  • Offers of up to 30% off SBB rail offers

Which Swiss Travel Pass should I get?

To take advantage of this exceptional pass, you must be a non-resident of Switzerland or Liechtenstein. There are two options to choose from when buying your Swiss Travel Pass:

  • Adults (over 26) from 232 CHF (approx MYR1,110.18). Choose between the Swiss Travel Pass and the Swiss Travel Pass Flex.

  • Young people (under 25) from 164 CHF (approx MYR784.78). Choose between the Swiss Travel Pass Youth and the Swiss Travel Pass Flex Youth. Young people have the same advantages as adults but benefit from a 30% reduction on the initial price of the Pass.

If you are a holder of the free “Swiss Family Card”, children aged 6 to 16 can travel for free as long as they are accompanied by at least one parent. For children under 6, trips are free.

The Swiss Travel Pass is a perfect fit if:

  • you have planned a lot of traveling. You'll save money as point to point tickets are more expensive.

  • you prefer ticketless traveling. You don't need to buy tickets for each trip.

  • your plans are not set in stone or you want to be flexible. The Swiss Travel Pass allows spontaneous trips at no extra cost.
